Abigail Bettis
Abigail has a passion for creating meaningful experiences that help incoming students feel welcomed, connected, and inspired. With a background in music pedagogy (B.A., 2016), she brings creativity, organization, and a people-first mindset to everything she does.
Abigail is driven by the belief that a great start can shape a student’s entire journey. Through thoughtful planning and a focus on community-building, she works to ensure every event is more than just a calendar item — it’s an opportunity to make a positive impact.
Jeff Davis
Dr. Jeffrey Davis is an Associate Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Tech. He has been the recipient of the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, the Class of 1940 W. Roane Beard Outstanding Teacher Award, HKN Richard M. Bass Outstanding Teaching Award, and the Class of 1934 Course Survey Award. He has heavily promoted STEM education throughout the state of Georgia, which resulted in him being a co-recipient of the Education Partnership Award at Georgia Tech.
Dr. Davis has also served as the faculty chair for the Electrical and Computer Engineering Student Faculty Committee for eight years, which promotes the interaction of students and faculty outside the classroom. He served for three years as a faculty advisor for the ThinkBig program here at Georgia Tech. He is currently the faculty advisor for a student led organization called Robogals that promotes female participation in engineering disciplines.
In research, Dr. Davis’ publications have been referenced over 2800 times by researchers throughout the world, and he has co-authored a book entitled Interconnect Technology and Design for Gigascale Integration, which was translated and republished in Chinese 2010. His current research interests are in exploring the low-frequency electrical properties of nanocomposite materials, and in 2012-2013 he was awarded the Georgia Tech Fund for Innovation in Research and Education (GT-FIRE) to pursue this avenue of research. Dr. Davis is currently involved in simulation and fabrication of solid-state nanocomposite materials that have extremely high-energy density for electrical energy storage.
Stacey Doremus
Stacey is a program director and staff instructor for Leadership Education and Development (LEAD). She works collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff, as well as other universities to support the development and enrichment of student leadership skills through LEAD's program initiatives. She is also a professional staff advisor for SMILE, Seek Discomfort Club and the First Year Leadership Organization (FLO) - SEED (Seek Discomfort). Prior to pursuing her passion for encouraging student leadership growth and development, Stacey held a variety of positions in the corporate world focusing on marketing and innovative product design and development. She currently has a professional affiliation with the International Leadership Association and the Institute of Coaching at McLean, a Harvard Medical School Affiliate (a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring scientific integrity in the field of coaching). Stacey received her B.S. in Accounting from the State University of New York in New Paltz and a Master of Divinity from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University with an emphasis on leadership in church and community. She enjoys spending time with family and is an avid swimmer and scuba diver.
Samantha Poliakon
Samantha Poliakon serves as the LEAD Coordinator for the Leadership Education and Development Program within the Division of Student Life. With five years of experience in education as both an elementary homeroom teacher and a visual arts educator, Samantha thrives in collaborative environments that bring students, faculty, and staff together. She is a proud Teach For America Metro Atlanta alumna (2020) and remains dedicated to fostering inclusive, connected, and inspired student communities.
Samantha holds dual B.A. degrees in Art (Studio) and Education, Society, and Human Development from the University of California, Riverside, along with an M.A. in Elementary Education from Mercer University.
Creativity is at the center of her approach, and she enjoys bringing artistic thinking and design into both her professional projects and her personal life.
Student Assistants
Samantha Bolton
Samantha “Sam” Bolton is a fourth-year Business Administration major with a concentration in marketing and a double minor in Leadership Studies and Social Justice. On campus, Sam is a student ambassador, founder of the Organization for Social Activism, and practices capoeira at GT in her spare time. Off campus, Sam is the founder and CEO of an international nonprofit where she organizes art and storytelling programs for the unhoused on weekends and has been organizing international group trips on her weekdays. Sam is a spoken word poet, activist, and cinematographer who loves to promote shared humanity through visual poetry online, in addition to solo travel content centered around her experience in female solo travel and hitchhiking through South America.
Sara Deshpande
Sara Deshpande works with the LEAD team as a Student Assistant, where she supports marketing and social media efforts to increase visibility and awareness of LEAD’s programs and initiatives. As an Industrial Design student at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Sara brings a creative, design-driven perspective to storytelling and outreach, helping translate LEAD’s mission into engaging visual and digital content. Having participated in LEAD programs herself, she is passionate about expanding access to these opportunities and connecting more students to leadership development experiences. Sara is currently pursuing a B.S. in Industrial Design at Georgia Tech, where she explores the intersection of creativity, systems thinking, and human-centered design. Creativity is central to her work, and she enjoys using design as a tool to communicate ideas, build community, and inspire meaningful engagement both on campus and beyond.
Rebecca Fisher
Rebecca grew up on a small farm with donkeys, dogs, chickens, goats, ducks, and parrots; and loves spending time outside. Exploring is her favorite hobby whether that's hiking, backpacking, kayaking, caving, climbing on the GT leadership challenge course, dancing, cooking, or baking; life is one big adventure that's ready to be explored. She spent this summer in Sierra Leone working as an engineering and community development intern and seeing what ministry look like from that side of the globe. She spent the last four years at Georgia Tech getting a degree in biomedical engineering (BME). She is currently a master’s student studying management. She started the leadership program as a coachee and quickly fell in love with the self-exploration and the empowerment aspects of leadership coaching and has since transitioned to serving as a coach.
Ekam Kataria
Ekam Kataria serves as LEAD's student assistant for recruitment and is a sophomore biomedical engineering student here at Tech. She believes that leadership isn’t defined by titles, but by everyday actions taken with intention and care. Driven by a desire to leave the world better than she found it, Ekam approaches every opportunity as a chance to create a positive, lasting impact. By blending imagination with purpose, she strives to turn ideas into meaningful outcomes—proving that anyone, anywhere, can lead and make a difference. In her time away from the classroom, Ekam enjoys reading across a variety of genres and exploring different artistic hobbies!
Vaishnavi Subramanian
Vaishnavi Subramanian serves as a Student Assistant Event Coordinator for the Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) program. As an undergraduate Environmental Engineering student and prior participant in the Grand Challenges program, she brings an authentic perspective to the role.Team building and community are at the center of her event ideation process, and she thrives at the intersection between creativity and efficient execution of activities. She enjoys engaging with peers and faculty alike to provide unique opportunities to the student body at LEAD.Outside of university involvement, she can be found playing ultimate frisbee on campus, studying at a new cafe each week, or simply enjoying the breeze on the benches at Tech Green.
Hanna Zhang
Hanna is a Student Assistant Event Coordinator passionate about creating positive change in her community. She is currently pursuing a B.S. in Industrial Engineering at Georgia Tech, with a strong interest in how systems and technology can shape more effective and equitable healthcare. She brings a thoughtful and inventive perspective, with experience expanding access to literacy through Little Free Library initiatives and designing supportive, inclusive STEM environments for young girls.
